The Xiaomi Redmi 5 ships with a 5.7-inch display bearing HD+ resolution, whereas the Redmi Note 5 flaunts a bigger 5.99-inch display with a sharper full HD+ resolution.
Moving on to the performance, the Redmi 5 is fuelled by a Snapdragon 450 chip, while Redmi Note 5 comes equipped with the Snapdragon 625, which is more powerful. Additionally, the Redmi Note 5 is powered by a 4,000mAh battery as compared to 3,300mAh unit on the Redmi 5.

Coming to the variants, the Redmi Note 5 is available in two variants offering different RAM and storage capacities – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. On the other hand, the Redmi 5 is being offered in 2GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB, and 4GB + 64GB models.

To start with, if you were to hold both these smartphones without knowing which is which, you will be hard-pressed to tell them apart. Both Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 flaunt similar metal-unibody designs, with similar positioning for the fingerprint scanner, camera module, LED flash, and other ports and controls.
Moving on, both handsets seem to share the imaging prowess as well, since both of them feature 12-megapixel primary cameras with f/2.2 and PDAF. Verdict

By now, it is pretty clear that the new Redmi 5 is just an toned-down version of the bigger sibling with a less powerful processor and battery, and a smaller display. With prices starting Rs 7,999 for the base variant, the Redmi 5 has been priced quite affordably as well.In case you are on a tight budget and looking for a relatively more compact smartphone, the Redmi 5 will serve you well. However, if you are considering the top-end variant of the Redmi 5, it could make more sense to opt for the 3GB variant of the Redmi Note 5 instead, which is priced slightly lower but offers a more powerful processor and a bigger display. In the end, it all boils down to how much you are willing to spend and your requirements based on expected usage.
